WP S/R: Is there room before resistance?

Use WP Support & Resistance to check what price would have to cross before reaching your target.

A buy signal appears on your NQ chart, but WP S/R shows resistance just above it. Before focusing on the target, look at that line. How far is it from entry?

This is a practical use of WP Support & Resistance (WP S/R): it helps you see support and resistance around a trade. For a buy, check the nearest visible resistance above entry. For a sell, check the nearest visible support below entry.

Read three distances on your chart.

Write down entry to stop loss, entry to resistance, and entry to target. You can now see whether the target comes before resistance or whether price has to break through resistance to reach it.

In this invented NQ example, assume WP S/R already showed resistance at 20,030 when the buy signal appeared. Each tick changes the quoted price by 0.25. Divide the price difference by 0.25 to measure distance in ticks.

NQ example: resistance comes before the target.
Chart referenceQuoted priceDistance from entry
Target20,03648 ticks above
WP S/R resistance20,03024 ticks above
Entry20,024Entry reference
Stop loss20,01824 ticks below

Entry at 20,024 is 24 ticks above the stop loss at 20,018. WP S/R resistance at 20,030 is also 24 ticks from entry. The target at 20,036 is 48 ticks above entry.

WP S/R shows resistance before the target. Price has 24 ticks before it reaches that line.

Compare those distances with the rules you already use. For example, a setup that requires the target to be before resistance would not qualify here. This comparison does not introduce a new WolfPack entry rule.

What the WP S/R line tells you.

WP S/R gives you a price to watch as you assess the trade. Price may reverse at resistance or break through it. Use your setup's entry rules alongside the reading.

A line alone is not an instruction to enter. Check the actual product, platform and revision when studying its detailed behavior.

A mistake to watch for.

Moving the stop loss closer just to improve the ratio does not move resistance. Keep the stop loss tied to your setup's rules. Moving the target farther away also leaves the same resistance between entry and target.

Try it in replay

Read the level before the next candles.

  1. Turn on WP S/R. Pause replay at five buy signals and hide the next candles.
  2. Record the nearest visible resistance above entry, then write down entry, stop loss and target. Use the instrument's verified tick size to measure each distance in ticks.
  3. Label each example "resistance before target" or "target before resistance." If no suitable resistance was displayed, record that instead of inventing a level.
  4. Apply the same written rule to every example before revealing the next bars. Review the decision separately from the result.

Use only levels visible when you pause. Some levels need later candles to confirm; a line that starts farther back on a finished chart was not necessarily available then.

If you do not use WP S/R, practice the distance calculation with the invented example above. A manually drawn level is a different source of information from a product's displayed reading.

Check your reading: how far is resistance, and does it come before the target?

Resistance is 24 ticks above entry: (20,030 - 20,024) / 0.25 = 24 ticks. The target is 48 ticks above entry, so resistance comes first. A farther target does not create more room before that line.

Keep working on the reading.

On your next chart, finish this sentence: "WP S/R shows resistance ___ ticks above entry. My target is ___ ticks above entry. Resistance comes ___ the target."
